If you’re on the search for a rewarding and fun summer job on a small organic vegetable farm in a small town with amazing people and beautiful land, we think we could do that for you!

The Farm

Puddle Produce Farm is a small 1.5 acre certified organic vegetable farm established on a 70 acre property on the Fraser river, in the historic region of Soda Creek (approximately 40kms north of Williams Lake). Soda Creek gets its name from the word Xat’sull, which means “on the cliff where the bubbling water comes out”, and it is Xat’sull territory where we gratefully live and farm.

We grow around 70 varieties of vegetables and microgreens for 2 farmers markets, a CSA program, online sales, and retail.

The Team

We’re a small crew: usually just 3-4 people including the farm owner/operator, so it’s really important to us to create a healthy work environment for everyone. We value the farm team above anything else because they are what make the farm successful, so we work hard but we also treat each other with respect and give back as much as possible. We’re good communicators, supportive, and make time to have fun and enjoy this amazing lifestyle.

The Job

The farm manager is looking for 1-2 full-time Field Assistants from May 1-October 15, 2024. Our field crew has lots of variety in their work – they get to dabble in pretty much everything on the farm. Here are some examples of typical work for the field team:

  • Transplanting/recording field data
  • Hand and mechanical weeding
  • Nursery plantings and maintenance
  • Irrigation set up and maintenance
  • Harvesting
  • Produce washing and packaging
  • Packing for weekly orders and Farmers’ Market
  • Assist with farmers’ market sales 2x/week

You don’t have to have any prior experience in veggie farming, just keen to learn and a good work ethic.

Compensation

$20/hour, and includes all deductions and benefits as per provincial labour laws, as well as all the free veggies you want. The candidates will work a 40hr work week, and days are Mon-Fri with opportunities for overtime, if desired.

We can also help any out of town candidates with relocation costs.

Logistics

You’ll need your own vehicle as there is no reliable transportation to/from the farm. PLEASE NOTE: there is little to no cell reception on the farm, but there is a phone line on site and reliable Wifi.

Staying on the farm

There is a skoolie and camper for any staff living on the farm. They both have a double bed, kitchenette, dining table, seating, fireplaces, outhouse, and Wifi. We do not charge rent to live on the farm while working here.

How to apply

Please send us a letter of interest telling us a bit about you and what you’re looking for, as well as a resume (maximum 2 pages).

Please email any questions about the position, and/or your application addressed to Brianna van de Wijngaard (Owner/Operator) at info@puddleproduce.ca.

PROJECTED START DATE: MAY 1st, 2024
