Longview Farms is a progressive grower and distributor of a wide variety of Certified Organic fruit and vegetable crops as well as conventional fresh-cut daffodils, daffodil bulbs, pumpkins, and hay. We are the largest Certified Organic vegetable farm on Vancouver Island and our produce, flowers and bulbs can be found in local grocery retail stores throughout Vancouver Island and the mainland. Our farm is in the municipality of Central Saanich on Southern Vancouver Island which is on the West Coast of British Columbia. This area hosts some of the most productive farmland in Canada.

 

POSITION: Farm Stand Ambassador/CSA Program Coordinator

The Farm Stand Ambassador/CSA Program Coordinator will be responsible for operating our farm stand, including setting up, operating, and tearing down/closing the farm stand at both the main farm location and at a variety of farmer’s markets around the Greater Victoria area. In addition, the Farm Stand Ambassador will assist with coordinating the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) vegetable box subscription program by processing, packing and distributing weekly orders. The role will report to the Office Manager and will collaborate and work closely with the Head Grower. A successful Farm Stand Ambassador/CSA Program Coordinator will have great people skills and enjoy communicating with customers. As the “face of the farm”, this person will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with the community.

 

LOCATION

Victoria (Central Saanich), British Columbia

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pack up/tear down and transport of produce and the farm stand including equipment (e.g., tent, tables, cash box, etc.) to/from the farm stand and farmers’ markets each day it is required.
  • Maintain produce quality throughout the day (i.e., temperature control, hydration).
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the farm stand, including the area around the
  • Accurately record the produce inventory for the farm stand at the beginning and end of each
  • Conduct sales at the farm stand and the farmer’s markets including managing debit/credit processing and cash sales.
  • Work with the Head Grower to learn produce varieties, growing standards and quality expectations and ultimately help to select produce and quantities for the farm stand.

  • Manage the CSA box pickup day at the
  • Market the items available in the farm stand by creating and displaying signage, circulating weekly email communications, and posting on social media – Facebook, Instagram.
  • Assisting with additional duties at the farm on an as needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract is
  • Able to walk, stand, kneel, lift 50 , and perform other physical duties in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and problem solve
  • Flexibility in schedule to work Thursday through Sunday with varied and extended hours as needed

 

HOURS

This is a full-time term position, Thursday through Sunday, approximately 32-40 hours per week starting June 10th and ending September 5th. The position’s responsibilities and time will be divided between the farm stand operation, attending farmers’ markets and coordinating the CSA box program:

  • Thursday – Sidney Night Market
  • Friday – CSA Box pick up day and farm stand operating at Longview Farms
  • Saturday – Peninsula Farmers Market
  • Sunday – Sidney Street Market
