SUMMARY:Young Agrarians BC Mixer
DESCRIPTION:Calling all farmers! \nYoung Agrarians (YA) invites you to join us to share knowledge and connect with each other – towards growing the next generation of farmers. \nYA (un)conference-style Mixers are a great opportunity to support and connect with passionate new and young farmers in the YA network. \nThreads woven through the weekend include sustainable business management\, ecological and regenerative production\, farmer health and wrap-around-care\, policy change and Indigenous food sovereignty. \nYA mixers are known for the remarkable connections made: new possibilities for collaboration\, support\, sharing and cooperation. To make the most of this\, come with an openness to meet new people\, share something that you have to offer (like employment\, land or special skills) and something that you might need (such as specific tools\, crop planning models or mentorship). \nTHEME: The theme of the mixer is “Resilience in Relationships” – a gesture towards the interconnections that sustain us\, with the land and each other. Resilience is the work of a community\, not an individual\, and relationships bring us out of isolation and into connection. Resilience can be very practical – and this Mixer event seeks to connect us all better to skills\, resources\, practices and supports in a networked approach to navigate change together. \nWHEN: Saturday\, February 28 8:30am-9pm and Sunday\, March 1\, 2026 | 8:30am-4:30pm \nWHERE: This two-day event will be held in snpintktn\, at the Okanagan College campus of Penticton: 583 Duncan Ave W PC 256\, Penticton\, BC V2A 8E1 \nREGISTER: Please register on Eventbrite to reserve your spot.

SUMMARY:Electric Fencing Masterclass - Lake Country
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to implement and improve electric fencing systems\, discuss theory and best practices when designing new fences. \nThe Small-Scale Meat Producers Association is hosting a 6-hour introductory electric fencing workshop next Monday at a certified organic orchard exploring seasonal livestock integration. Grazing mentors\, Tristan Banwell & Julia Smith will guide participants through this fun and informative day at beautiful Claremont Ranch in Lake Country. \nThis hands-on workshop is designed for both livestock producers and crop growers\, including orchardists and vegetable producers who are curious about incorporating livestock into orchards or crop rotations. Seasonal grazing can offer significant benefits\, including improved soil structure\, increased organic matter\, enhanced moisture retention\, nutrient cycling\, weed suppression\, reduced mowing costs\, and more resilient agroecosystems. When managed properly through rotational grazing\, livestock can become a powerful soil-building and land management tool. \nUsing Claremont Ranch as a case study\, participants will learn the fundamentals of electric fencing systems\, including how electric fences work\, grounding systems\, energizer selection\, permanent versus portable fencing\, and species-specific design considerations for sheep\, cattle\, poultry\, and pigs. We will also discuss food safety regulations\, organic certification considerations\, and withdrawal periods that impact grazing orchards and crop systems. The workshop includes a substantial hands-on component where participants will install fencing and explore practical tools\, troubleshooting techniques\, and management strategies that support successful livestock integration. \nWhether you are raising livestock or growing crops and considering seasonal grazing partnerships\, this workshop will provide the foundational knowledge needed to design effective\, compliant\, and resilient electric fencing systems. \nLearn more and register here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/electric-fencing-masterclass-tickets-1982832189455 \nThis class is funded by the Climate Agri-Solutions Fund. Funding for the Climate Agri-Solutions Fund has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions – On-Farm Climate Action Fund.

SUMMARY:Electric Fencing Masterclass - Lillooet
DESCRIPTION:On March 14 and 15\, join us at Spray Creek Ranch in Lillooet for an immersive advanced electric fencing workshop tailored to producers who already understand the fundamentals and are ready to take their systems to the next level. Spray Creek Ranch is a certified organic operation managing poultry\, sheep\, pigs\, cattle\, and horses within a dynamic rotational grazing system\, making it an ideal real-world classroom for applied fence design. \nDuring the half-day classroom session\, we will explore high-tensile perimeter construction\, brace systems\, advanced grounding strategies\, load calculation\, long-distance power transmission\, predator offsets\, and designing multi-paddock systems that reduce labour while improving performance. We will also examine how fencing supports rotational grazing\, wildlife management\, winter resilience\, and long-term infrastructure planning. \nThe full hands-on day will focus on demonstrations and building and testing systems in the field. We will construct corner and brace assemblies\, tension and tie high-tensile wire\, install grounding systems\, diagnose faults\, and evaluate power under vegetation and load pressure. This workshop is designed to help producers engineer fencing systems that are durable\, scalable\, and capable of performing under real operational stress. \nIt may be helpful for participants to review our series of instructional electric fencing videos available on YouTube. \nLearn more and register here: https://www.smallscalemeat.ca/fencing-masterclass \nThis class is funded by the Climate Agri-Solutions Fund. Funding for the Climate Agri-Solutions Fund has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions – On-Farm Climate Action Fund.
