SUMMARY:Farm Tour and Potluck at sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park
DESCRIPTION:Join the Okanagan Indian Band\, the Regional District of North Okanagan and Young Agrarians for a Farm Tour and Potluck at sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park in Vernon! \nCome check out what’s going on at the sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park! Previously known as the “BX Ranchlands\,” this property was newly named the sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park in consultation with the Okanagan Indian Band\, to honour the Syilx Territory it is part of. sncəcmałqtn translates to “place of small crops or garden” (for a pronunciation guide please refer to this audio recording). \nThe spacious site was recently transformed into a public park\, farm and land-sharing project. Last year\, the Regional District of North Okanagan opened applications for small farm plots (in collaboration with the B.C. Land Matching Program)\, and many farmers have now moved into the space. Currently\, there are still plots available. \nWe’ll enjoy a tour of the park and will learn about the history of the land and how the area came to be what it is today. Haley\, your regional Land Matcher\, will also be there to discuss how the B.C. Land Matching Program can help you to find a farmer for your land\, or find land to start or expand your farm business (at the sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park or elsewhere). \nThere will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions about the project and the plots of land available for lease. Join us to connect with other farmers\, food lovers and members of the community\, while sharing a delicious potluck meal and learning more about this community space. \nDATE: Sunday\, May 25\, 2025 • 10 am – 1 pm \nLOCATION: Syilx Territory. SUMMARY:Farm Tour and Potluck at Earth Temple Gardens
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a Farm Tour and Potluck at Earth Temple Gardens in Meadow Creek\, BC! Come out to connect with other farmers and food lovers\, share a potluck meal and learn how to operate a farm in a remote location. \nEarth Temple Gardens is an organic farm situated in the rural community of Meadow Creek\, nestled between the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges at the north end of Kootenay Lake. Owner and operator Michael Silver first established the farm over 10 years ago\, on leased land. When the land was sold in 2023\, Michael worked with the B.C. Land Matching Program to develop a land agreement with the new landholders. Since then\, Earth Temple Gardens has continued to supply the community with organic vegetables and medicinal herbs. Michael’s mission is to grow healthy produce in the most sustainable way possible – he believes that nourishing local communities and enriching the biodiversity of the land are far from mutually exclusive. \nDuring the farm tour\, we will learn about Michael’s approach to sustainable agriculture and his experience selling through multiple sales channels\, including: farmers’ markets\, farm stand\, and wholesale. Nyree\, the Columbia Basin Land Matcher\, will also be there to discuss how she can help you find a farmer for your land or farmland where you can build your dream farm business. The afternoon will wrap up with a potluck meal\, with plenty of time to ask questions and socialize. \nCome out to learn about land matching and check out what your local farmers are up to! \nDetails and registration: youngagrarians.org/july-27-2025-farm-tour-and-potluck-at-earth-temple-gardens
